‘Summertime Sadness’

A reflective piece about the power and impact of emotions. So potent are some moments that they can linger for some time afterwards, becoming a figurative afterglow. The painting was completed using gradations of the primary colours, with the addition of white. The positioning of the subject is intended to pull the viewer into the scene, as part of the moment. What is the story behind this? Ultimately that is for the viewer to decide.

The title was taken from the song ‘Summertime Sadness’ released by Lana Del Rey in 2012.
